This box of material on Joel Barlow (1754-1812) contains a few original Barlow manuscripts (including his appointment as Chaplain to a Continental Army unit during the Revolution), genealogical and biographical information, copies of newspaper articles on Barlow, and some copies of Barlow's poems and material on his tenure as consul to Algiers, as well as his involvement in the speculations in Ohio of the Scioto Company. The bulk of the material is correspondence of Lemuel G. Olmstead who sought information on Barlow and his contemporaries. Also included is a draft of a review by Olmstead of an article which appeared in Duyckinck's Cyclopedia of American Literature (1856) and notes and copies of articles on Barlow collected by Olmstead.
